Portlight Strategies, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, is the nation’s only cross-disability disaster response organization. Over the last two decades, we provided relief and recovery assistance to people with disabilities affected by disasters, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Isaac, and Irene; Superstorm Sandy; numerous tornados, and the Butte and Valley wildfires in California.
From Memorial Day 2015 to Labor Day 2016, we deployed for multiple catastrophic flood events in Texas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisiana, and West Virginia.
Over the years, we’ve become the leading subject matter experts in inclusive emergency management, advising FEMA, state and county governments, American Red Cross, disability rights leaders, and community stakeholders and service providers. With the introduction of our Portlight Learning Center for Inclusive Disaster Strategies, we now offer courses which can be incorporated into higher education programs in emergency management and other related fields, and can also be used as individual training courses for emergency management professionals, first responders and disaster and humanitarian relief workers.
We’re proud to unveil our introductory course, Inclusive Emergency Management 101: Integrating the Disability Community into Planning and Response!
